Why are CD and DVD boxes different sizes?

cds.jpgQuestion

CDs and DVDs are the same size. So why is the packaging a different size?
Shaun, Woodford

Answer

Name: Tony, Bishop's Stortford
Qualification: I work in CD factory and occasionally someone asks that question.
Answer: It's a marketing thing. Originally, when CDs and DVDs came out, previous to that were records and videos. Records came in a square case, and videos came in a rectangular box. So it's a psychological marketing ploy.
