Why are film stars called 'Stars of the Silver Screen'?


In Hollywood, why do they talk about “stars of the silver screen”?

Answer: There are two answers. One is that the chemicals you use for exposing light on film is silver nitrate. And the second is that in the old days, when projectors weren’t as bright, they used to have a silver reflective quality on the cinema screen to give it contrast and luminance.
