Why is the sole of a man’s shoe wider than the shoe, but it isn’t for trainers or women’s shoes?

Answer: It’s to do with the quality of the shoes. Men want their shoes to last longer and don’t want to have to re-sole them as often. Going way back, the only way you could do that was using a machine called a Goodyear welding machine, where you stretch wet leather around a shoe-shape and then sew it on to the sole. The only way you can do that is by stitching it on the outside.
