Why are there 60 seconds in a minute?

Why are there 60 seconds in a minute? Wouldn't it make more sense to have 100 seconds in a minute?

Answer: 60 can be divisible by more numbers than 100. It's the same reason there are 24 hours in a day. It's the reason that Imperial measurements were created, such as lbs and oz.

Answer: The Ancient Egyptians used to count using their thumb. You've got three sections on four fingers, so that comes to 12. All measurements used to be divisible by 12.
