Why aren't the sea levels sinking?

iceberg.jpgQuestion

If ice takes up more space than water and the majority of icebergs are below water, shouldn't the melting Polar icecaps lower the sealevel, rather than making it higher?

Answer

** Definitive **
Name: Robert, Hendon
Qualification: I learnt it in A-Level Geography!
Answer: It's very simple. one of the polar icecaps - Antarctica - is mainly a landmass with ice on top of the land. So when it melts, the water will go into the sea, therefore causing the sea level to rise.
