Why do greyhound races start at funny times, like 14 past or 23 to? Why not to the nearest five minutes?

Answer: Horse races always start at intervals of five minutes – with the big ones on 15, 30, 45 or the top of the hour. Dog races are timed so that they don’t coincide with the horses. Then they can both be shown in bookmakers on TV screens.
