Why do some WW1 memorials say 1914-1919?

Question

Who do some World War 1 memorials say 1914-1918 and some say it finished in 1919? Surely Armistace Day was on 11/11/1918?
Peter, Morden

Answer

** Definitive **
Name: Jeff, Bromley
Qualification: I have a book about it!
Answer: The fighting finished with the Armistace in November 1918, but the war didn’t end officially until the Treaty of Versaille in 1919. So legally, we were actually at war until 1919 – all memorials should really say this date.
