Why do toiletries contain Aqua instead of Water?

Question

In toiletries, they list the primary ingredient as Aqua. Why don’t they write water?
Peter, Thames Ditton

Answer

** Definitive **
Name: Elizabeth, Camberwell
Qualification: Manufacturer of bespoke cosmetics
Answer: It’s required by law to have the latin names for ingredients as they are universally-recognised. It’s as close to a universal language that we have. You also see Parfum instead of Perfume. You don’t even have to put the translation in brackets afterwards.
