Why do we say parboiled, not part-boiled?

Question

The word part has four letters - why do we drop the T when we call something par-boiled or par-baked?
Alan, Cobham

Answer

** Definitive **
Name: Paul, Croydon
Qualification: Par-qualification
Answer: Par-boiling is actually an abbreviation of the word partial, not part. Partial is a measurement, but part is a fraction of it.
