Why do wild animals not get stung by nettles?

Question

Why do wild animals not get stung by nettles?
Kelly, Greenwich

Answer

James O'Brien - they are covered in feathers or fur. If you are covered in clothes you wouldn't get stung. I think that if you shaved them they would.

**Definitive**
Name: Shamwar, Marlybone
Qualification: Dog owner
Answer: One of my dogs got very stung around the eyes after running through nettles. So the exposed skin can get stung but the fur protects the rest of them.
