Why does baby formula milk cost the same in every shop?

Question

baby bottleWhy does baby milk cost exactly the same price in every supermarket. Why doesn't it vary at all?
John, Welwyn Garden City

Answer

** Definitive **
Name: Elaine, Barkingside
Qualification: Breastfeeding counsellor
Answer: By law, shops aren't allowed to put any commercial promotions on baby milk, so that explains why you won't get one cheaper than the other. It's because under government guidelines, people cannot be encouraged to bottle-feed over breastfeeding. Follow-on milk can have a different price, but not stage one formula milk.
