Why does phone signal cut out only one way down a road?
Question
When I drive down a hill near my house, I lose my phone signal, but going up the hill, the call stays connected? How does that happen?Johnny, M25
Answer
** Definitive **Name: Professor Hal
Qualification: Mystery Hour’s numero uno
Answer: If you’re finding a place when you lose your signal, it’s normally when you’re going between two different cells from transmitters. When Johnny’s going uphill, it’s because he is facing the tower he is switching to, so he has a windscreen in between him and the transmitter, instead of a metal roof. So it’s easier for the signal to get through.
