Why does the sun set in different places?

Question

Last year, we noticed that the sun is setting on a different part of the horizon than it used to. Why?
Louisa, Croydon

Answer

** Definitive **
Name: Peter, Welwyn
Qualification: My Dad was born on 21st June
Answer: The sun rises directly in the east and sets directly in the west on one day of the year only – 21st June, which is midsummer’s day. After that, the days start drawing in and the sun sets in a different place. So the sun sets in a different place every day.
