Why don't airport scanners pick up glasses or zips?
Question
When you go through the metal detector at airports, you have to take your belt off, but not my glasses, or any zips. Why is that?Matt, Leatherhead
Answer
** Definitive **
Name: John, Dorking
Qualification: Security machine operator at Gatwick Airport
Answer: The detector can be set at different levels to detect different densities of metal. So it’s set at a level that doesn’t pick up small zips and fillings. A handheld detector would pick up zips. Also, the belt buckle makes it more difficult to be patted down.
