Why don't cigarettes have use-by dates?

Question

Why are there no use-by dates on packets of cigarettes?
Ben, Ascot

Answer

** Definitive **
Name: James, Bishop Stortford
Qualification: Non-smoker
Answer: There’s a difference between a best before date and a use-by date as anything consumed after the use-by date could be dangerous for your health, like ham, whereas bread with a best before date just wouldn’t be very nice. As cigarettes contents are dried, they do not go off, so don’t need a use-by date.
(James O’Brien: Plus, seeing you’re buying something with a giant "This will kill you" label on the side, a best before date seems a little redundant!)
