Why is Colonel Gaddafi, the leader of Libya, still a colonel? Why hasn’t he promoted himself to a general?

Answer: Following the bloodless coup in 1969, Gaddafi was a Prime Minister, but relinquished the title in 1972. He took a ceremonial promotion from captain to colonel and made the state a society ruled by the people, so no one needs to be senior to a colonel.

Answer: The Colonel is the highest rank. The only thing that is higher is a Brigadier, which is when a colonel takes charge of a brigade.
