Why is the sea salty but rivers aren't?

Question

riverthames.jpgWhy is the sea salty, but rivers are fresh and run into the sea?
Ben, Catford

Answer

** Definitive**
Name: James O'Brien
Qualification: I know my water cycle
Answer: All the salt is in the sea. The salt would have been in rocks and was washed down to the sea by the river. But when the water evaporates up to the clouds, it leaves the salt in the sea. So now it's all in the sea.
