Why is there only one Woolwich Ferry?

woolwich-ferry.jpgQuestion

Why does the Woolwich Ferry only have one boat running? What’s happened to the other two boats?
Steve, M23

Answer

** Definitive **
Name: Hugh Broom
Qualification: James’ travel guru
Answer: There are three boats, all of which were built in 1963, when they replaced the original paddle steamers, which had been in use since 1923 (pictured). They’re very old and they break down a lot. Currently, one is being refurbished and should be back in action in November. If there is only one running, that means the other has broken down.
