Clarkson, Hammond and May to make shock Grand Tour return

Presenters had said they would not make any more episodes of series, but will be back for a new season

Original hosts Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May will return for a reboot of The Grand Tour when it returns to screens next month, after all three left the Amazon Prime show.

The trio, who hosted the previous six series between 2016 and 2024, will return to briefly alongside their replacements in the new season on Prime Video.

Clarkson, Hammond and May stepped away from the series in 2024, making way for a new roster of presenters for the seventh season: YouTubers Thomas Holland and James Engelsman and trainspotter Francis Bourgeois.

But the veteran trio will return to help smooth the transition to the new hosts.

Co-creator and TV producer Andy Wilman said in an interview during his appearance at the Buckingham Literary Festival said: “We’ve got three guys coming soon with a new Grand Tour and we’ve got behind them.

"We’re really supporting them.

"Our [original] guys are in the shows doing cameos, so we’re wishing them well because we do want to pass that baton on.”

The new series will drop on Amazon Prime Video on September 4.

In June Clarkson, who hosts Clarkson's Farm on Amazon Prime, revealed he had been diagnosed with an "aggressive" form of prostate cancer.

In a subsequent interview with The Sunday Times, the former Top Gear host confirmed a PSA test two months ago revealed no indication of cancer, and he is in remission.

Speaking about his cancer, Clarkson said: "I am without a doubt, officially, the world's luckiest man.

"It was an aggressive type of cancer. It could have spread, it could have gone into the pancreas, it could have gone anywhere, and that would have been trouble."
