Speaking on LBC's Nick Ferrari at Breakfast, the politician and friend of Trump said: "What Charlie was appealing to was self betterment, [to] be a better person. And Trump understood that and got that.
"What he saw last night, how he looked, when he did his statement, Trump would have been deeply affected by it."
Kirk, 31, was holding an outdoor debate at Utah Valley University and responding to a question from an audience member about mass shootings when a single bullet then hit him in the throat.
He was pronounced dead in hospital around an hour later after being taken away by car.

On his own relationship with Kirk, Mr Farage said: "I'd known Charlie for 10 years when I first met him. I was rather astonished that this guy of 21 had already set up his own organisation and was touring American universities.
"He was always great fun to be with, incredibly hardworking. He had his own daily radio show, he toured relentlessly. He was deeply committed Christian. He was very happily married, absolutely thrilled to be a father.
"He was very conservative. He believed in a whole set of values and views that maybe some would think are quite old fashioned, but that was what he stood for. But it was so interesting that as he went round American universities where, in my view, the woke mind virus had taken hold."
He added: "Yeah, I knew him very, very well. So I sort really reacted with horror."
When asked by Nick about Kirk's influence on Trump's political success, Mr Farage said: "I don't think anybody on this side of the pond should underestimate just how big a figure over these last 10 years Charlie Kirk have become, just how many young people he got to think in that way to support Trump, but also to be active, to be out campaigning, to be out doing stuff. He was a very important figure."
