One dead as police declare 'mass casualty incident' after boat crashes into ferry carrying 40 people
One person is dead and several injured after a boat crashed into a ferry in Florida on Sunday.

The boat fled the scene near the Memorial Causeway Bridge and remains at large, The Clearwater Police Department.
Writing on X, the police department confirmed a “mass casualty incident” had been declared after the ferry, carrying 40 people, was hit.
Authorities did not immediately provide the number of those who were hurt but confirmed at least one person has died.

"All local hospitals have been notified. Multiple trauma alerts have been called with helicopters transporting two of the more seriously injured," the post said.
"The boat that fled the scene has been identified by another law enforcement agency," the police department added.
"The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission will be taking the lead on the crash investigation. Any further questions should be referred to that agency."
Videos on social media showed several first responders rushing to the scene with lights flashing.
Police cautioned drivers to avoid the Memorial Causeway.
