Projectiles hit the prison, which houses Iran’s political prisoners, causing damage to parts of it and raising the possibility that dissidents may have been able to escape.

The gates were destroyed in the strike, although Iranian officials said the situation was “currently under control.”

In a post to X, Gideon Sa'ar, Israel's Foreign Affairs Minister, wrote: "We warned Iran time and again: stop targeting civilians!

"They continued, including this morning.

"Our response: Viva la libertad, carajo!"

Alongside the post, Sa'ar shared a picture of the front of Evin Prison, as well as a video of the prison's gate being blasted.
