Charles left the state banquet crowd roaring with laughter after his speech at the black tie dinner on Tuesday, which came after his first full day of his US visit.

President Donald Trump hailed the king as part of his own speech, and later added to reporters that the King had "agreed with him" that Iran should not be allowed to have a nuclear weapon.

Naturally, Charles did not speak of the Iran conflict during his speech and trod carefully, using his words to celebrate the American independence of 1776, which will have its 250th anniversary on July 4.

The King is the first British monarch to have made an American state visit since his mother, Queen Elizabeth II, was dined by George W and Laura Bush in 2007.
