"Their Majesties The King and Queen, The Prince and Princess of Wales have also been informed of the announcement. Further details will be announced in due course."

The couple got together in May 2024 before Peter got down on one knee to pop the question with a ring, designed by the same jeweller behind the late Queen Elizabeth II's ring.

Peter, 48, is 19th in line to the throne and previously married Montreal-born Autumn Kelly in 2008 at Windsor's St George's Chapel but divorced in 2021.

They share daughters, Savannah, 15, and Isla, 13. Harriet also has a 13-year-old daughter, Georgina, from her first marriage.

Harriet, 45, who shares a relation to the Duke of Gloucester through her late father, Rupert Sanders, lives in Gloucestershire and works as a paediatric nurse specialist for the NHS, according to an online biographer.

She joined the King and her new mother-in-law Princess Anne and the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh at Sandringham in between Christmas and New Year.

Harriet debuted in a royal procession at Royal Ascot last June which was seen as a significant step forward for her moving in the royal fold.
