As it happened: Boris Johnson urges 'get boosted now' as UK hits record Covid cases

Share

Boris Johnson has urged the public to "get boosted now" after the UK hit its record number of daily Covid cases.

Mr Johnson held a press conference at Downing Street, addressing the developments with the Omicron Covid variant.

He was joined by Professor Chris Whitty and the Head of NHS Primary Care Dr Nikki Kanani.

It came after MPs approved new Plan B measures to fight the Omicron variant, despite a huge Tory rebellion.

The Commons backed the expansion of where face masks need to be worn indoors, and the mandatory use of a Covid pass showing vaccine status or a negative test to enter some venues and events.
