Three people killed in Sweden shooting as police hunt gunman who 'fled scene on electric scooter'

Three people have been killed in a shooting in the Swedish city of Uppsala, police have confirmed.

Shortly after 5pm, police were called to Vaksala Square. Police spokesperson Magnus Jansson Klarin told local media they "received several calls about loud bangs that resemble gunshots".

"Several people have been found with injuries consistent with gunshots," Swedish police confirmed.

Footage shared to social media shows a large police cordon and presence.

The shooting took place at a hair salon, local media reported.

According to information provided to local media, the police are hunting a suspected perpetrator who left the scene on an electric scooter. According to the police description, the man is said to be wearing sunglasses and dark clothing.

The area remains cordoned off with an investigation now underway.

The Swedish Transport Administration confirmed that train traffic has been stopped due to the police operation in the area.
