This Is Why Bikes Without Front Brakes Should Never Be Ridden In Public

Share

The Met Police has released a video demonstrating the reason why bikes with no front brakes should not be ridden on public roads.

It follows the conviction of a cyclist who fatally hit a pedestrian as she crossed the street.

Charlie Alliston, 20, was found guilty of causing bodily harm by wanton and furious driving in a landmark case on Wednesday.

He was riding a fixed-wheel track bike with no front brake - not legal on the road - when he collided with Kim Briggs on Old Street last year.

Prosecutors argued Alliston could have avoided the crash had such a brake been fitted when he hit the 44-year-old mother-of-two at 18mph.

The video above, put together by Scotland Yard, shows how a regular bike and a fixed-track bike with no front brake differ immensely when it comes to stopping distances.
