The dog was discovered in good health on Kangaroo Island, located off the southern coast of Australia
She had vanished back in November 2023 when her owner Georgia Gardner and her boyfriend Joshua Fishlock took her along on a camping trip.
The couple had briefly stepped away from their campsite to go fishing, leaving Valerie secured in a playpen.
But when they returned, the little dachshund was gone.
Since then, Kangala Wildlife Rescue has been working tirelessly, often โaround the clock,โ to locate Valerie.
The group never gave up hope, continuing their search efforts for nearly a year and a half.
In a Facebook post they said: "This rescue was a true testament to the dedication and perseverance of our team, the unwavering support of the community, and the power of collaboration.

"There were many challenging moments over the past month, and we are incredibly grateful to everyone who played a part in bringing Valerie home."
They added the search for Valerie involved over 1000 volunteer hours and more than 5000 km travelled by volunteers in their private vehicles, the deployment and monitoring of numerous cameras and traps and the use of various forms of technology to successfully secure Valerie while ensuring her physical and psychological welfare.
