Thieves smash digger into cash machine stealing thousands of pounds

Brazen thieves smashed a digger into a shop front to steal thousands of pounds from an ATM.

The heavy machinery was ploughed into the Co-op in Cranbrook, Kent, in the early hours of Thursday.

There were no reported injuries but part of the building has been seriously damaged.

The digger remains outside the building and officers recovered another vehicle abandoned in a nearby road that is thought to have been involved in the burglary.

The Kent and Essex Serious Crime Directorate have now launched an investigation.

Detective Sergeant Jason Booth said: “We remain in the area carrying out enquiries and reviewing CCTV and forensic opportunities.

“We are looking for three suspects and a third vehicle that may have been used.

“We would ask any witnesses who have not yet been in contact to call us as soon as possible.”
