Heathrow fire LIVE: Airport ‘able to restart flights’ but passengers warned to follow advice from airlines

    Heathrow Airport fire explained

Heathrow Airport has closed after a fire at the North Hyde electrical substation in west London, disrupting more than 1,350 flights on Friday. Thousands of homes lost power, and over 100 people were evacuated after the blaze. The substation supplies Heathrow, which confirmed it was affected by the outage. FlightRadar24 reported 679 arrivals and 678 departures were impacted, with 120 flights already airborne when the shutdown was announced. Heathrow, the UK’s busiest airport, handled 83.9 million passengers in 2024.
