This is the moment two teenagers attacked a moped rider with a hammer during a two week crime spree last winter.

The CCTV footage shows 16 year olds John Smith and Shemar Williams stop the victim on Leytonstone Road on the 4th November, before assaulting him with a lump hammer and robbing his bike.

The pair were jailed conspiracy to rob on 34 different offences across Newham, Waltham Forest and Tower Hamlets.

The victims were either riders of mopeds who were robbed of their bikes, or women whose bags were forcibly taken after the pair had ridden behind them.

Smith was sentenced to five years' imprisonment with a further two years on licence when released. Williams was sentenced to three-and-a-half years' imprisonment and was also sentenced to 18 months' imprisonment consecutively for two separate knife-point robberies.

All but two of the robberies were carried out at night and often a weapon, such as a hammer or a knife, was used during the crimes. Violence was used against the victims, and one man was hospitalised after being robbed of his moped.
