A young woman was raped in the early hours of Sunday morning after being separated from her friends.

Police were called to a block of flats in Blackheath Hill after reports that a 19-year-old woman had been raped while trying to get home.

After a night out in the area the victim lost her friends and was trying to catch a night bus home from a stop in Blackheath Hill. At around 4:15am the woman entered a block of flats in the area with the suspect and was later raped.

Following the attack she was able to escape and call for help.

Detective Constable Alexandra Johnson from the Sexual Offences, Exploitation and Child Abuse Command, who is investigating, said: “This was a horrific attack on a lone woman as she was simply trying to make her way home. A significant period of time has passed and we have exhausted all lines of inquiry.

"It is of paramount importance that anyone who recognises the man or has any information about the incident contacts as immediately."

Police now want to speak to a man in connection with this incident and have released a CCTV image of him. He is described as white, around 5ft 9ins tall with a slim build in his late twenties or early thirties.

If you were in the area at the time or have any information about the man in question you can call detectives on 020 8721 4653 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
