A man has been arrested after a mother and three children were taken to hospital with stab wounds.

The three girls, all under the age of 12, and their mother were at a house in Palmers Green, Enfield, when they were attacked by a man known to them on Saturday.

Police were called to Livingstone Road at 12.13pm after being called to reports of an injured woman.

Officers found the mother and her three girls "suffering from serious stab injuries", a Metropolitan Police statement said.

A 44-year-old has been charged with four counts of attempted murder.

Liban Malhamoub, of Clarence Road, Enfield, is expected to appear at Highbury Corner Magistrates' Court today.

The victims are in a non-life threatening condition.

Speaking on Saturday, Detective Sergeant Joe Stewart said: "This was an appalling attack on a woman and her young children. They have sustained very serious injuries.

"Attacks like this on such young people are extremely rare. At this early stage of the investigation, we are not looking for anyone else in relation to this incident. The attacker was known to the victims. There is no further risk to the public at this time."
