A man from Tottenham has been charged with attempted murder after he tried to drive at a police officer during a vehicle stop.

Aydin Altan, 25, was arrested on Wednesday on suspicion of attempted murder and possession of a firearm after he drove his car at a police officer on White Hart Lane on Tuesday morning.

Commenting on the injured officer, a Metropolitan Police spokeperson said: "The injured officer was taken to a north London hospital where his condition was deemed not life-threatening. He has since been discharged."

Four males, aged between 17 and 19, were also arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender but were later released pending further inquiries.

A 23-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of perverting the course of justice and assisting an offender, but was also later released on bail.

Mr Altan remains in custody and is due to appear at Highbury Corner Magistrates Court on 1 November.
