The Crown star Olivia Colman has been awarded her CBE by Princess Anne during an investiture ceremony at Buckingham Palace.

The Oscar-winning actress, who also played Queen Anne in The Favourite, was honoured for her services to drama under her real name Sarah Sinclair.

The 45-year-old smiled and greeted palace staff as she left the ceremony, but declined to speak to reporters.

She missed out on meeting the Queen, who she is set to portray in the new series of the hit Netflix series, which returns on November 17.

In a recently-released trailer for the show she is preparing for her silver jubilee and considering the impact she has had during her reign, saying in voiceover: "On days like today, ask yourself in the time I've been on the throne what have I actually achieved?"

Ms Colman also starred in ITV drama Broadchurch, cult comedy Peep Show and hit series Fleabag.

British cave divers Joshua Bratchley and Connor Roe, who helped save a youth football team trapped inside a flooded cave in Thailand in 2018, also received their MBEs on Thursday.

Others to receive gongs included former Undertones frontman Feargal Sharkey, who received an OBE for his services to music.

Mr Sharkey, 61, was the lead vocalist of the Northern Irish pop-punk band, best known for the hit single Teenage Kicks.
