Royal Marine 'fighting for life' after being found unconscious in ocean during training

A Royal Marine is reportedly in a critical condition after being found face-down in the sea during a training course in Cornwall.

The unnamed soldier was part of a group doing a beach assault exercise on Tregantle beach before getting into difficulties.

A source told The Sun: "We were doing a tactical beach landing at Tregantle, and ‘Out Troops’ was called.

“The recruits got off and then went up to their eyeballs in water. It was below freezing and they were all over the place so the crew recovered them.”

It is understood the troops had to bail out of an assault boat.

But after the men gathered on the beach it was discovered one man was unaccounted for, who was later found in the water.

His fellow servicemen had top pull him from the water and perform CPR until paramedics arrived and he could be flown to Derriford Hospital in Plymouth by air ambulance.

The Royal Navy has confirmed an investigation has been launched.

A spokesperson said: “We are aware of an incident involving a member of the Royal Marines in Plymouth.

"The next of kin have been informed and we ask for privacy for the family.

"The incident is currently under investigation, therefore it would be inappropriate to comment further.”
