Vidette UK, which the van driver works for, published a long apology on Facebook after the video was spread on social media.

The incident, which took place in Sussex on Sunday, April 30, saw a van driving very close behind a cyclist before it pulled alongside and the cyclist went on to the grass.

Vidette UK, a building contractor, shared a post on its Facebook page addressing the incident.

Ian Frazer, the managing director of the company said that: “My wife and I are both very keen cyclist ourselves so fully appreciate the impact/trauma that a near miss like this would have on anyone in this situation.”

Frazer said that the driver was “full of remorse” for what happened. He said his actions were partly due to “personal problems with his family” and that “his mind ‘was all over the place’”.

The driver has been dismissed from the company and Frazer said that the company will provide extra driver awareness training for its staff.

He finished by saying: “I hope this letter will also be of comfort to the other road users & cyclists who have written their concerns.”

Sussex police are investigating the incident.
