Police taped off part of Portcullis House after a "white powder" was reportedly delivered to the office of Lib Dem leader Jo Swinson.

The third floor of the office building, across the road from the Houses of Parliament, was cordoned off on Monday morning after the alert.

Staff in the building claimed police said the suspicious package was "nothing to worry about and will be removed soon."

A Metropolitan Police spokeswoman said: "Police were called at approximately 09:51hrs on Monday, 4 November to reports of a suspicious package delivered to Portcullis House, Westminster.

"Officers are in attendance and the contents of the package are being assessed.

"No reports of any illness or injuries. The premises have not been evacuated. Enquiries continue."

Police issued an update around 12pm confirming the package had been assessed and was not suspicious.
