A former counter terrorism adviser to the government offered a reassuring message in the wake of today’s devastating Westminster attack.

Chris Hunter joined Nigel Farage on his nightly LBC show to explain how extremely rare such attacks are here in the UK.

He told Nigel: “As a European you've got a one in 100,000 chance of being murdered, typically in the United Kingdom you're 160 times more likely to be murdered than you are killed by terrorists.

“That's actually a one in 60 million ratio and if you actually think back to all the terrorism incidences that have taken place over the last 10 years, you think of the number of losses as tragic and you know terrible as they are, actually it’s not a significant number.”

Mr Hunter argued terrorists main objective was to play fear with people’s emotions, he continued: “They know that by perpetrating these acts by publicising them, by getting the media coverage that they're so horrendous, they're so horrific, so barbaric and they absolutely play to our emotions and our fears, they're very powerful."
