The Vive Pro 2 and Focus 3 have ultra-high-resolution and wider fields of view than previous headsets.

HTC has unveiled two new versions of its Vive virtual reality headset, both of which now support 5K resolution and a wider, 120-degree field of view.

The tech firm says the new Vive Pro 2 and Vive Focus 3 represent a new benchmark for virtual reality experiences.

Unveiled at the company’s annual Vivecon event, the ultra-high-resolution display and wide viewing field found in both headsets are among the highest spec VR headsets available on the market.

The Pro 2 is designed to connect to a user’s PC, while the Focus 3 is the firm’s latest all-in-one and, therefore, wireless headset, which HTC says is also aimed at business users.

The Pro 2 also supports a 120Hz refresh rate, meaning moving images are more fluid and helps to create a more realistic experience, HTC says.

Alongside the headsets, the tech company also announced its Vive Business platform, which enables companies to manage their collection of headsets at the same time from one place.

“At Vivecon we redefined premium VR for both businesses and consumers, with stunning 5K resolution and 120-degree field of view setting a new benchmark for PC VR and all-in-one headsets,” HTC Vive’s general manager for Europe Graham Wheeler said.

“Vive Pro 2 delivers an amazing immersive experience, with beautifully fluid visuals, comfort, and precise tracking, for when every pixel and polygon counts.

“Vive Focus 3 heralds a new era of business VR – crafted for stunning visuals while also being durable and lightweight, with superior comfort and ease of use.

“Our new Vive Business solutions make it easier than ever for an organisation to use VR, so whether it’s a small start-up or a multinational, everyone can benefit from the transformative potential of VR.”

Those with existing HTC Vive accessories will be able to buy just the new Pro 2 headset as an upgrade for £659, starting on May 11.

In August, a full-kit version of the Pro 2, which includes controllers and base station, will go on sale for £1,299.

The all-in-one Focus 3 will cost £1,060 and will be on sale from June 24.
