After United Airlines overbooked a flight, this passenger refused to leave his seat and was dragged off the plane by security in a video that's shocked the world.

The flight from Chicago to Louisville on April 9th was being operated by United Airlines.

When the man - who was reported to be a doctor - was asked to leave his seat because the airline had booked too many passengers on the jet, he said no.

After repeated requests to vacate the seat, security came onboard and physically removed the man from the seat. A number of passengers filmed the incident as it took place, with their videos showing the horrified reaction of some other passengers to what's taking place.

Tyler Bridges tweeted: "Not a good way to treat a doctor trying to get to work because they overbooked.

"He told the police and United employees he had to be at the hospital in the morning to see patients."

United Airlines' CEO responded to the incident with a a statement that has drawn further ire. Oscar Munoz said: ""This is an upsetting event to all of us here at United. I apologize for having to re-accommodate these customers.

"Our team is moving with a sense of urgency to work with the authorities and conduct our own detailed review of what happened."
