Last month, violent clashes between the two countries were sparked after gunmen killed 26 people, mostly Hindu tourists, in Indian-controlled Kashmir.

Governments can nominate people for the prestigious prize - which Trump has been vocal in the past about wanting.

Pakistan made the announcment on X citing the President's "decisive diplomatic intervention and pivotal leadership".

In the statement released on Saturday, the country said: “At a moment of heightened regional turbulence, President Trump demonstrated great strategic foresight and stellar statesmanship through robust diplomatic engagement with both Islamabad and New Delhi which de-escalated a rapidly deteriorating situation, ultimately securing a ceasefire and averting a broader conflict between the two nuclear states that would have had catastrophic consequences for millions of people in the region and beyond.

"This intervention stands as a testament to his role as a genuine peacemaker and his commitment to conflict resolution through dialogue.

Violence erupted between India and Pakistan after gunmen killed 26 people, mostly Hindu tourists, in Indian-controlled Kashmir back in May.

Kashmir has been a contested territory between Pakistan and India since 1947 and the two nuclear-armed neighbours each run part of the region but claim ownership of it all.

Following escalating tensions, Trump has announced the two countries had agreed to a 'full and immediate' ceasefire, following talks mediated by the US.

The president had boasted of averting nuclear war and saving millions of lives, yet not getting credit for it.

Pakistan also added: "President Trump’s leadership during the 2025 Pakistan India crisis manifestly showcases the continuation of his legacy of pragmatic diplomacy and effective peace-building.

"Pakistan remains hopeful that his earnest efforts will continue to contribute towards regional and global stability, particularly in the context of ongoing crises in the Middle East, including the humanitarian tragedy unfolding in Gaza and the deteriorating escalation involving Iran.

International pressure for deescalation came after Pakistan said it was taking retaliatory action after accusing India of launching missiles at three of its airbases.

People living in Indian-controlled Kashmir said they heard loud explosions at multiple places in the region, including the disputed region's two big cities of Srinagar and Jammu, as well as the garrison town of Udhampur.

"Explosions that we are hearing today are different from the ones we heard last two nights during drone attacks," said Sheesh Paul Vaid, the region's former top police official and a resident of Jammu.

"It looks like a war here."

Lieutenant General Ahmad Sharif said in a televised address that all Pakistan Air Force assets are safe following the Indian strikes and most of the missiles have been intercepted.

He added that some of the Indian missiles also hit India's eastern Punjab, saying "this is a provocation of the highest order".
