Two luxury apartment blocks illegally built in India have been reduced to rubble in seconds.

The high-rise blocks in Kochi, Kerala state, were demolished on Saturday after a court said they had broken laws on not building within a certain distance of water.

About 2,000 people nearby were evacuated as a thick cloud of dust spread over the area.

Two more blocks will be demolished on Sunday.

Local media reported that the apartment blocks being torn down used to be home to 240 families, but that they will get compensation.
