The world’s most-followed TikTok star has left the United States after being detained by immigration officials.
Khaby Lame, who has 162.2 million followers on the video-sharing app, was detained on Friday by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers at Harry Reid International Airport in Las Vegas.
Lame was targeted by ICE officers for “overstaying the terms of his visa."
An ICE spokesperson said he had arrived in the US on April 30 and chose to leave the country voluntarily, without the need for deportation.
During his stay in the US, Lame attended the Met Gala as well as Metropolitan Museum of Art's Costume Institute benefit gala.
Khaby Lame shot to fame during the Covid-19 pandemic, with his unique reaction content striking a chord with audiences worldwide.
He has since been appointed a a UNICEF goodwill ambassador and signed a partnership with Huge Boss.
His run in with ICE comes amid the backdrop of protests across California in response to aggressive immigration raids in the state.
Hundreds took to the streets of Los Angeles after ICE officers detained dozens of people without warning.
In response, Donald Trump ordered 2,000 national guard officers to descend on the city.
