There's been public outcry over news the Big Ben bong will be silenced for four years over health and safety concerns for repairworkers. Norman Lamb told Stig there are more important things to be worried about.

Liberal Democrat Norman Lamb responded to public outcry over news the Big Ben bong will be silenced four years while repair works on the clock take place.

He shut down complaints on Stig Abell's LBC show after the Presenter asked the politician: "Do you think it's important?"

Norman went on to say he believes that health and safety concerns of those making repairs are valid.

The opinionated politician went on: "I think we should respect peoples' health and safety while we're at work.

"To be honest there are more important things to be worrying about. We've got Grenfell Tower, we've got thousands of people across our country let down who don't get access to proper mental health care, and so on and so forth.

"Quite apart from what's happened in Barcelona, let's just get a life and realise there are more important things around."

But Norman Lamb's view is very different to that of one caller, Paul, from Poland, who told Stig why he cares about the bong from Big Ben.
