Ian Collins On Cameron LGBT Award "Tories Don't Care About Your Sexuality"

Why the backlash against Cameron's LGBT award? Asks Ian Collins; Conservatives have always judged people on their politics, not lifestyle.

LGBT website PinkNews faced an internet backlash this week when they named former Prime Minister David Cameron 'Ally of the Year'. Ian Collins strongly defended the award, saying sexual equality is totally compatible with conservatism.

"You see, here's the thing; if you're a Conservative you don't actually give a toss whether somebody is black, white, gay, straight, bi-sexual.

"If you're a Tory, they don't care. They do not. Part and parcel, and this is the interesting, perhaps often missed aspect of this, part and parcel of conservative ideology is that they don't care. They haven't got time to care. It doesn't matter, it's nothing to do with any of that.

"You don't have to subscribe to a particular hymn sheet. There's no code of conduct, no dress code when it comes to becoming a conservative."
