Man arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after police hit-and-run

A 25-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after a police firearms officer was allegedly mown down by a car.

The vehicle was stopped by police in Tottenham on Monday evening, but then drove off at speed suddenly, hitting an officer.

He was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries and has since been discharged.

The man was also arrested on suspicion of possession of a firearm.

Four further males, two ages 17, one aged 18 and one aged 19, have also been arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender.

A woman, aged 23, has been arrested on suspicion of perverting the course of justice.

Detective Chief Inspector Linda Bradley said: "This was an extremely serious incident whereby the safety of the public, as well as the life of the police officer, was endangered.

"We are keen to speak to anyone who may have seen this disturbing event."
