Young woman suffers multiple knife wounds in 'needlessly violent' attack in London park

A woman has been rushed to hospital after being found with multiple stab wounds in a park in east London.

The 18-year-old victim was knifed repeatedly and was found badly injured in a public toilet in Little Ilford Park, Dore Avenue, Newham.

She is in a serious condition and has been taken to hospital after being stabbed multiple times in her stomach and neck, police said.

Police and paramedics were called at around 5.52pm.

A 21-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder.

The attack has been described as "needlessly violent" by Detective Inspector Jeremy McDermott.

He added: "This attack took place in the early evening and we would like to hear from any members of the public who were in the area at the time.

"This was a needlessly violent attack where a young woman has received stab wounds to her stomach and neck, and is seriously ill in hospital.”

In London, there were 149 homicide investigations in 2019. This was the highest number for more than a decade.
