Two men have been murdered in separate knife incidents in the space of just three hours as the stabbing death toll in London reaches 64.

A man in his twenties has died after being stabbed in a fight in west London.

Police were called to reports of a confrontation near Ealing Common just after 6 o'clock yesterday evening.

Scotland Yard said they were called to "reports of a fight in the area West Lodge Avenue close to Ealing Common, W3."

Officers and paramedics rushed to the scene but a 22-year-old man was pronounced dead just before 7 pm.

Police said a man has been arrested on suspicion of affray and remains in custody.

Detectives from Specialist Crime are now leading this investigation under Detective Chief Inspector Noel McHugh.

DCI McHugh said: “A young man has tragically lost his life and another family has been left grieving. The death of this man will no doubt impact all those who knew him, his family, friends and also the wider community in the area where this attack took place.

“We need those who have information to come forward now. Their information could prove vital to securing justice for the victim’s family. My team are busy at the crime scene and forensic analysis and review of local CCTV footage continues apace.

“I would like to appeal to those who were in the area before or after the attack to call investigators and tell us what you saw. Did you see anyone in the area before the fatal stabbing? Do you remember seeing or hearing anything as the attacker(s) made off? We need the public’s help along with those who knew the victim to come forward and tell us what they know.”

“Whist we retain an open mind, at this early stage, there are nothing to suggest this attack is linked to the incident on Hillingdon Station or the fatal attack in Southall on Monday.”

Sadiq Khan the Mayor of London expressed his sympathy to the families of the two men, and added that he was in close contact with the Met Police.

Earlier on Tuesday, a 20-year-old man was stabbed to death on a London Underground platform in front of rush-hour commuters.

The British Transport Police were forced to close Hillingdon station following the attack at around 4 pm.

Detectives believe the victim was attacked following an "altercation" on the platform with a group of men.

British Transport Police has named the man who died in a London Underground carriage after being stabbed on a station platform at Hillingdon station in west London in an unprovoked attack as Tashan Daniel.

Witnesses claimed the man may have been stabbed multiple times during the incident.

This is the 64th stabbing murder in London this year.
