Police are searching for the parents of a seven-month-old child after they took it away from social services without consent.

South Wales Police have appealed for information after a "looked-after" baby was taken from a social services contact centre by its natural parents.

They are looking for Gareth Roberts, 37, and Gemma Thomas, 35, who took the baby after a contact visit in Pontypridd where they took the child without authorisation from the local authority.

The pair were caught on CCTV after they left the centre.

Officers said the incident took place at around 10am on Monday.

The baby's natural parents, both from Porth, were last seen in Rhydyfelin, South Wales, but police currently don't know where they are.

"It is believed they may attempt to travel out of the area so officers are also appealing to people living outside," South Wales police said.

South Wales Police later confirmed a 37-year-old man and a 35-year-old woman had been arrested and taken into custody.

Anyone with information is asked to contact South Wales Police using the reference *388908, or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
